Life happens in the present; it is only our thoughts that distinguish past and future and create the illusion of separation from the eternal moment in which we are inextricably immersed. Two profound schools of thought that provide a framework for transcending the limitations of the mind and opening the experience of life to new expansive spiritual vistas are the Jungian philosophy of individuation and Hermetic alchemical principles. Jungian philosophy and Hermetic alchemy converge in an exploration of the individual’s journey toward self-realization. Individuation, the central theme in Jung’s philosophy, is the process of integrating all aspects of the conscious and unconscious mind, resulting in the fullest expression of the individual soul akin to finding the kingdom of God within.
The individuation process involves a descent into the depths of the unconscious, confronting the shadow–the repressed and denied aspects of the psyche. This journey is marked by archetypal encounters symbolized in dreams and fantasies which guide the individual toward a more authentic existence. The Hermetic idea, “as above, so below,” resonates with the process of individuation, reflecting the truth that the microcosm of the individual reflects the macrocosm of the cosmos.

Nothing comes from nothing. Manly Hall’s vision for the All-Seeing Eye was entirely supported by contributions from its readers who paid for their subscription with gifts made according to their means. Manly Hall wrote,
“This magazine is published and distributed privately to those who make possible with their financial support its publication. The magazine cannot be bought and has no fixed value. Like all of the ancient teachings which it seeks to promulgate, it has no comparative value, but the students must support it for its own intrinsic merit.”
