Acacia is a fascinating plant with attributes that make it a particular source of interest to the inquiring seeker, from either the point of view of an esoteric explorer or a curious historian. Its range is widespread, with almost eight hundred species found in subtropical regions all over the globe, mostly medium sized, slightly shrubby trees, and fossils of its seedpods have been found dating from between 56 and 33.9 million years ago. It can survive in arid environments as a small bush or thrive and become a tree of up to seventy feet in kinder climates.
