The Bullet not Despair

He pulls his life out of his pockets;
A knife, a book, some stones, and a quill.
From his wishing he pulls a gun-made-conscience
And sits it on the windowsill.

What are writs or bibles or dockets?
He thinks, as he watches the sidewalk reel.
“There as common as mongrel dogs’ nuts;
As sweet as banana peels.”
