Welcome to the March issue of The New Journal of the Philosophical Research Society. This month, the journal is centered upon Manly Hall’s ‘big book,’ The Secret Teachings of All Ages, which has been republished in an extravagant new edition by TASCHEN, celebrating the book as a work of art in its own right. When the first edition of The Secret Teachings was published in 1928, its quality caused a sensation. This stunningly packaged new printing surpasses the glorious first edition, and includes a group of superb prints of paintings by J. Augustus Knapp, some of which were not included in the original. The tome arrives in a custom-made cardboard box printed with the cover typography. An oversized envelope contains the prints, and the book nestles beneath them inside a wrapper of hand folded tissue. A substantial guidebook is concealed beneath the big book in a cleverly constructed compartment. This is bibliophile heaven.
We are proud of the extraordinary beauty of the Taschen printing, but aware that its content is equally important – and we have published a new PRS edition of The Secret Teachings for readers who are keen to understand the metaphysical significance of the esoteric tradition. Hall’s perceptive writing opens doors to the wisdom of the past, and helps readers to live well in the present. The Philosophical Research Society exists to continue the work of Manly Hall. Our mission is the same as it was at our founding in 1934. We are here to provide resources for seekers to find meaning and wisdom. We need your help to continue with this mission – support us by making a donation. Help us make the world a better place by continuing the great work. |
