The Philosophical Research Society is pleased to announce the hiring of our new Executive Director, Dennis Bartok. Dennis has over thirty years of experience in the administration of nonprofit cultural organizations, as detailed in his following message. With Dennis, we look forward to an expansion of programs, cultural outreach, and communication with our constituents, both locally and worldwide.
Throughout its eighty-eight years, PRS has sought to embody the vision of its founder, Manly P. Hall, providing a wealth of information and support for those who seek wisdom from the many diverse streams of religious and philosophical thought which have sprung forth in response to the fundamental need for meaning which is essential to human survival. However, to embody this ideal, it is necessary to build and maintain a firm foundation in the mundane world.
Plato’s Theaetetus relates a tale of Thales, one of the greatest of the pre-Socratic philosophers, who, while walking along studying the heavens, did not give due regard to his path and fell into a pit. We too, while facilitating contact with the sublime, need to also be mindful of our path and meet the necessities which allow us to continue.
