"All the gods, join together, to bridge humankind with Heaven.

All the paths, awaken us, create new conditions of Buddhahood.

Real and false, false and real—let your eyes be

                bright and heart aglow.

Don't be proud and spoiled,

Don't be hasty and restless,

Ride the currents of karmic cause."

DANCING ON ROOFTOPS WITH DRAGONS:

The Yoga of Joy

By Yuan Miao.

Translated from Chinese by Denis Mair & Peter Shaw

ISBN: 0-89314-431-2  $14.95

Paperback 264pp.

Part bittersweet documentary, part guidebook for yoga practice, this is the remarkable story of one woman's journey of discovery. Once a renowned filmmaker for China Central Television, through her own suffering Yuan Miao came to the realization of the preciousness and real power of joy. Through years of material success, religious awakening, intense personal loss and attempted suicide, she was awakened to the mystical possibilities around her, that manifested through her. Her system for the self-cultivation of joy, with all its healing power stems from many years of practice, and the Vajrayana Yoga teachings of her Tibetan Buddhist ancestors. This simple "Nine Step Yoga of Joy" is shared with her readers so that they too may cultivate and nurture joy in their lives.

"Dancing on Rooftops With Dragons gives us an awe-inspiring glimpse into the delight of Existence, the Joy of the Cosmos. The author, Yuan Miao, also reveals how, as a very small child, she almost unknowingly and even casually accepted her spiritual life-mission directly from Kuan Yin. Perhaps most sobering of all, is to read first-hand the heart breaking price she had to pay over and over, for personal access to some of life's deepest mysteries."

Obadiah S. Harris

President, Philosophical Research Society

"This powerful book offers solid food for our troubled times. The author's profound story teaches the truth of the universality of spiritual experience that neither secularized communism nor a consumer-driven capitalism can wipe out — how the world of spirit calls our species to a deeper level of consciousness and evolution. Her practical teachings and exercises instruct us in ways to keep harmony and joy alive day by day in the midst of whatever trials history lays upon us.

It is believed in Vajrayana that all all hand gestures and body movements are very closely related to powerful energy. When performed in association with sounds and visualizations, various beneficial results may be generated.

The reason for such effects upon the body is two-fold. First, hand gestures serve as secret keys to unlock the doors of the universe. And second, both hands act as the opposing poles in the human body's electro-magnetic field. The hands are also the beginning and ending locations of the six energy channels known as meridians. Mudras help adjust dysfunctions and imbalances in the body by affecting these energy channels.

The effect of sound waves upon the human body has been well documented. Mantras and mudras, coupled with visualizations of light and color, allow one to connect with the message of energy in the universe, to make the healing of a specific illness more effective.
